We are excited and honored to have been invited to perform a concert of Johann Sebastian Bach’s music for the American Bach Society’s conference being held this fall in Atlanta at Emory University. The theme for this year’s conference is “Global Bach”. Reflecting on this theme, it was immediately apparent to us, given the current state of affairs in the world, we could all benefit from a bit more hope and joy in our lives. With this goal in mind, Atlanta Baroque Orchestra has created a program of cantatas that present J.S. Bach at his sunny, optimistic best. From the intimate expressions of betrothed love, to the heroic triumph of Jesus descending to earth to redeem mankind, we hear music and poetry celebrating the faith and family. It is our wish that the universal appeal of Bach’s music will be a much needed balm to our souls.

With a “bright, ideally-focused sound, allied to a probing expressive intelligence” (Chicago Classical Review) Hannah De Priest is a fearless performer of a wide range of lyric soprano repertoire. Especially renowned for her “masterful” (Olyrix) singing of Baroque music, the young soprano has made numerous important debuts in recent seasons, including her Kennedy Center debut (Opera Lafayette: Serpina, La servante maîtresse) and European debut at the Innsbruck Early Music Festival (Gilde, L’amazzone corsara). The Boston Globe named her “unmistakably the breakout artist” of the 2023 Boston Early Music Festival, at which she performed as a soloist in multiple concerts and two opera productions. Hannah has earned recognition at numerous important competitions, winning 2nd Prize at the 2021 International Cesti Competition for Baroque Singing. She has been a finalist in the London Handel Competition (2024), American Handel Aria Competition (2021), and Le Concours Corneille (2019), among others. In addition to her return to Atlanta Baroque Orchestra, her fall season included debuts with Collaborative Arts Institute of Chicago and Ars Lyrica Houston. Next, Hannah records her debut solo album of French and Italian baroque music with Les Délices. In the spring, she returns to the storied Boston Early Music Festival as Livia in Keiser’s singspiel Octavia before touring and recording The Dragon of Wantley with the Festival’s orchestra in Europe.
Jacob Perry, tenor, is lauded for his stylish interpretations of early music. As a soloist, he lends his graceful sense of phrasing and luminous tone to engagements with Apollo’s Fire, Bach Collegium San Diego, Jacksonville Symphony, Philharmonia Baroque, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Tempesta di Mare, Washington Bach Consort, and the Washington National Cathedral. Jacob joined the Carmel Bach Festival in 2022 as the tenor participant in the Virginia Adams Best Masterclass.
Deeply immersed in vocal chamber music, Jacob enjoys active membership in Les Canards Chantants, a soloist-ensemble based in Philadelphia, as well as engagements with ensembles such as the Art of Early Keyboard (ARTEK), Cathedra, Ensemble Altera, The Leonids, New Consort, Res Facta, and TENET Vocal Artists. He has explored the vocal works by contemporary composers through engagements with Third Practice, hexaCollective, and Great Noise Ensemble. As Co-Artistic Director of Bridge, a genre-defying vocal collective based in Washington, he draws on his instincts for theatricality and story-telling, as the group explores the connections between early masterpieces and ground-breaking new works.
Baritone Michael Dauterman currently serves as Choral Music Director at The Westminster Schools. He completed his Master of Sacred Music degree at Boston University while serving as the Assistant Conductor for the Boston Choral Ensemble and a member of the Handel and Haydn Society. Michael received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music.Music with Les Canards Chantants, and “English Orpheus”—a tour de force exploration of love songs and poems from the Elizabethan, Restoration, and early 18th-century periods he performed with Tempesta di Mare.
Kathryn Montoya appears with a variety of orchestral and chamber music ensembles including the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, Tafelmusik, the Wiener Akademie, Pacific Musicworks, and Apollo’s Fire among others. She received her degrees at Oberlin Conservatory and Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington. While at IU, she was the recipient of the prestigious Performer’s Certificate and was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Germany. Recent projects include the Globe’s Tony award-winning productions of Twelfth Night on Broadway, concerts and master classes in Shanghai, and tour and Grammy award-winning recording, Charpentier: La couronne de fleurs - La descente d’Orphée aux enfers with the Boston Early Music Festival. Montoya has been broadcast on NPR’s Performance Today and can be heard on the Erato, Naxos, CPO, NCA, Analekta, and Dorian Sono Luminus labels. In her free time, she can be found in Hereford, England converting an 18th-century barn into a home with her partner, James.
The Glenn Memorial UMC Chancel Choir, composed of a mix of volunteer and professional musicians, strives to offer a high quality of musical leadership for Glenn Memorial Church’s worship services and other special events in the life of this worshiping community. Glenn is a deeply rooted and growing congregation located on Emory University’s campus in the historic Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta.
Musical highlights from the last few seasons include Bach’s St. John Passion, Handel’s Messiah, Requiems by Fauré and Rutter, and other timeless works from the sacred choral canon. Collaboration and community are at the heart of this ensemble’s values and the 2024-2025 season proves to be an exciting year for this as they join forces with the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra, DeKalb Symphony Orchestra, and the Theodicy Jazz Collective.
