Pierre Ruhe of ArtsCriticATL.com has written a great review of our concert which you can see at this link.
A couple of quotes:
“The Atlanta Baroque Orchestra has returned to splendid form… This season marks violinist Julie Andrijeski’s first as artistic director, and judging by a concert Sunday afternoon at the Roswell Presbyterian Church, her effects have been immediate.”
“Under Andrijeski, who leads from the concertmaster position, the ABO is practically a different group — in personnel, in rhythmic vitality and in extroverted attitude.”
“The 14 musicians were again proving their essential worth to the community.”
Ruhe also made two cross-genre musical comparisons that I just love:
“They played “La Follia” with the fervor of a hot-jazz band.”
“Andrijeski and cellist Brent Wissick reveled in its earthy roots. They played it with tight virtuosity and the show-stealing abandon that a bluegrass fiddle band reserves for “Orange Blossom Special.”
In addition to Ruhe’s observations, I would also like to give credit to Martha Perry, principal second violin, who put in some impressive licks in that and several other pieces.
Now please read the whole review at the link above. We’re proud.
