John Tavener is a contemporary composer from England, born in 1944. His work fits beautifully with the Early Music aesthetic. So at the request of a patroness, in memoriam of a longtime Atlanta Baroque Orchestra supporter who passed away last year, we are once again performing Tavener’s “Song of the Angel” for soprano soloist and orchestra in our next concert, Sunday, February 13, followed by Handel’s inspiring cantata, “O Sing Unto the Lord a New Song”, also known as Chandos Anthem No. 4, for soprano, tenor, chorus and orchestra. Beginning the performance will be Georg Philipp Telemann’s Overture and Suite in e minor for flutes and strings, from his Tafelmusik collection, and Handel’s Concerto grosso in G, Opus 6 No. 1.
This is also the official Debut Concert of our new Artistic Director Dr. Julie Andrijeski, renowned Baroque violinist and dancer, known for her solo work with Cleveland, Ohio Baroque orchestra Apollo’s Fire.
